TransBallard: Day 83

07 August 2012

Belknap Hot Springs to Eugene OR 78 miles (TransAm 4,107)

I think it’s become pretty evident after 82 previous entries in the TransBallard odyssey and a score of other trips and travels documented here on the burritowagon website that Gina not only loves to travel by bicycle but also loves to eat her desserts, no matter what time of day. Case in point: today’s berry pie breakfast:

Looking at this picture, I can’t help but wonder if, for the past 4,107 miles, Wendy has suffered from the same I-fear-I-won’t-get-more-than-a-nibble anxiety I often do when sharing a plate with Gina, known by some as “Hoover.” Wendy is smiling here so I think she did just fine, but let’s do take note of who is positioned closer and with a stronger scooping angle to the no doubt rapidly emptying plate.

Fueled on fresh berries and ice cream, our little tribe of cyclists continues westward toward the sea, only today and tomorrow separating them from a sandy, salty oceanside celebration of a country crossed by pedal power and determination and a host of other qualities that we’ll save for the very end when the wheels have stopped spinning but the words have not, bouncing around the roulette wheel until the very last motion is recorded with a plunk into that winning pocket and we shout with delight at our new-found riches.

Until then, one more day of saddle scenery, from covered bridges to Co-Motion construction.
