TransBallard: Day 79

03 August 2012

Baker City to Prairie City OR 67 miles (TransAm 3,814)

I think the sum total of mountain pass elevations that Gina pedaled over today, which would be three passes at 5,082 ft (Sumpter), 5,124 ft (Tipton), and 5,277 ft (Dixie) for a total elevation of 15,483 ft, would be about equivalent to the total number of calories I consumed at tonight’s first ever venture into a fondue restaurant, courtesy of good friends Suz and Carol who are the consummate professionals at ensuring that Gina and I never, ever go hungry. There was bread dipped in cheese followed by speared meats dipped in hot broths and cold sauces followed by tasty morsels of sugary sweets dipped in dark chocolate. It’s the most cooking I’ve done since Gina left town. Now if only I had pedaled 3,814 miles to get to the restaurant, then maybe I wouldn’t feel so full and like maybe the other present I could use for my upcoming birthday is a pair of pants with an elastic waistband.
