TransBallard: Day 76

31 July 2012

Cambridge ID to Halfway OR 61 miles (TransAm 3,692)

Rocky made an appearance today after a rather long absence. Today I didn’t wonder, however, what he’d been up to, as it quickly became obvious: Rocky was leading a pair of young ones along the backyard fence, with another adult, who I can only assume is his current squeeze, keeping pace with the family queue. Rocky’s still got it.

The kids I saw today were cute but not nearly as cuddly as these kids:

I would like for Gina to bring one home with her, as long as it won’t shed or chew on the dining room table. I would name it Peanut Butter. But sadly, not only would the little guy undoubtedly turn my Northwest fleece into a used lint brush and cut its baby canines on items that even I’m not allowed to touch but she would exceed the weight allowance for dogs at the condo, not to mention the bicycle basket Gina would like to tote her around in.

These adorable babies were born in Oregon, the tenth and final State for Team TransAm. They arrived there today after a fantastic 30-mile send-off from Idaho, the first eggie sandwich of the trip, another “worthy stop” (which can only reference food and beverages), and a final 15 mile push in 100 degree temperatures through the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. Apparently aptly named.

So welcome to Oregon!  Puppy, anyone?
