Australia Again: Command Central

27 Feb to 08 Mar 2011

Command Central.

Also known as Limpin’ Leigh’s house.  This is where we’ve been holed-up of late, feverishly contriving and devising what it is we shall do next.  It’s like dueling banjos, me on the loaner Macintosh and Gina sitting directly across, hammering away on our travel Dell.  Every now and then I peek over the top of the Mac to see what’s going on over there, but the smoke trail from her flying mouse and fingertips often obscures my view.

So what have we come up with?  Well, we’re heading to Tasmania in a few days to go road tripping.  Yes, road tripping.  That same activity that we were both so over about a month ago.  Kitchen blocks, public toilets, tell me where you’re from – that road tripping.  This time, though, our trip will be shorter (3 weeks vs. 3 months) and we’ve mac-daddy’d up to a campervan.  Specifically, a “Go Cheap” campervan.  Could there be a more perfect union?  I say gravy meet boat, we are about to serve ourselves up a delicious feast of Tasmanian scenery and stimulation.  While there we also hope to pay homage to the endangered Tasmanian Devil, a critter that shares something in common with Gina.  No, not the spinning (that’s just Gina and the Looney Tunes version) but the ability to smell food from over 10 kilometers away.

And after that?  Did we really need to overheat two motherboards to come up with Tasmania, a part of this very Australia that we sit in now that’s only “A world apart, not a world away” according to their tourism website, the first website one would come upon in a single Google search?  Not really, no.  Next up after that will be bicycling in Vietnam.  Now THAT will be an adventure, if we can ever manage to cross the street from our hotel.  Gina thinks getting from one curb to another in Sydney is like playing a round of Frogger.  I think we ain’t seen nothing yet.  But we’ll cross that bridge, er, street, when we get to it.
